          Municipal sludge contains combustible matters, especially biochemical sludge (residual sludge discharged by secondary sedimentation tank). Owing to much activated sludge bacteria in municipal sludge, more combustible matters exist. According to sludge calorific value test in Shanghai and Tianjin, sludge calorific value in Chinese municipal sludge is about 2200 to 3300 kilocalorie/ton dry matters. Sludge digest can transfer partial thermal value of sludge into mathane. So the thermal value of sludge after being digested is lower. The thermal value is only 70% of it in sludge which hasn’t been digested. Summer is a season with more rainy days. City water consumption is larger. Accordingly, there are less organic matters included in sludge. So the thermal value of sludge is lower than that in winter.

          Working principle

          Process requirements of sludge carbonization
          1. Uniformly drying, avoid caking, even granularity; the temperature should be controlled below 580 degree Celsius; drying time should be controlled not over 30 minutes;
          2. Uniformly heating; evenly baking; make sure that the surface and inside are the same;
          3. High temperature: with the function of hot temperature: part of organic matters is crystallized and volatile gas is emissed.
          4. Low oxygen: in hot temperature process, limited combustion is realized by controlling amount of supplied oxygen.
          5. Finish carbonization after temperature dropping to avoid heat accumulation;
